Upcoming Events!
This fall, The Munster Judo Club is celebrating its 30th year at the Munster Elementary School.
Join us Monday and/or Thursday nights from 19:30 to 21:00 and Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00 running from mid-September to the end of May.
Weekday classes are generally for older kids (10+) and adults.
Saturdays are open to participants ages 6 to 65+.
Having such a large space allows us to accommodate both serious athletes with competitive aspirations and recreational athletes who just want to have family fun, get in shape and work towards their Black Belt.
The program is taught by 6 black belt instructors, led by Head Instructor Karen Heney. Karen is a former 10-time Canadian Champion and represented Canada at 5 World Championships as well as the Pan American Games, Commonwealth Championships and dozens of international elite events across Europe, South America and Asia. She is an honorary member of Sport Canada’s High Performance Club and currently acts as a mentor for apprentice women coaches covering a variety of sports with the Coaching Association of Ontario.
As residents of Munster we have always offered this program on a voluntary basis, therefore registration is only about $150 for the year through the City of Ottawa Recreation, (which covers janitorial expenses at the school). Similarly led private clubs in the City can cost over $1,000 a year.
There are additional costs for the uniform (or Judogi), and registration with the provincial Judo body. (Judo Ontario)
Guests interested in watching a class are welcome anytime.
