Student Voluntarism Bursary Policy (Revised March 2025)

The Munster Community Association (MCA) will award two (2) $500 bursaries to graduating high school students who currently reside in Munster, Ontario, regardless of where their high school is located. The students to be considered for the awards will be nominated by their respective high school principals or teachers, and the MCA Board of Directors will then select the two successful recipients based on the criteria below.

The purpose of the award is to recognize local students who have demonstrated interest in helping the MCA community by providing a service to residents or organizations. The award is also intended to reduce financial barriers to the deserving students who plan to pursue post-secondary education.

The criteria to be used for selection of students by their respective school officials, as well as by the MCA selection committee are:

1. Residence: The student must reside in Munster, Ontario as per the 2024 bylaw boundaries during the graduating school year.

2. MCA Member: The students household must be active members of the MCA having paid their annual fees (to be confirmed by the MCA Board of Directors for all applicants)

2. Community involvement: The student will have demonstrated a service as a volunteer to individuals or an organization in Munster, Ontario at least during the graduating school year, above and beyond the required 40 hours, with priority given to those volunteering within Munster.

3. Post-Secondary application: The student has applied (or clearly plans to) to attend a post-secondary institution in the upcoming academic year.

The MCA Board of Directors will publicize the award through the MCA website, social media platforms, email blasts, and by contacting the 4 principle high schools (South Carleton High School, Sacred Heart High School, École secondaire catholique Paul-Demarais, and L'école secondaire publique Maurice-Lapointe) by mid-March of the year the award will be given. Applications from the respective students’ high schools will be due by May 15 and will include 1) a letter from the school officially nominating the student and detailing how they meet the selection criteria and 2) a letter from the student stating why they should be given the award.

The MCA Board of Directors will then review the applications and select two successful candidates and notify the applicable high schools by May 31 for the award to be presented at the graduation ceremony. The MCA will request that the recipient agree to the MCA Board of Directors publishing his/her name.
